So I've been mulling over what computer set up I'll get when I win the Lottery. Now of coarse it depends on the jackpot size. If it's a rather small jackpot I think I'll get a New PC, protools with the Digi 003 (with the Black Lion Mod) a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 8 channel Mic pre and an Auto Tune of some sort. If it's a larger Jackpot I might go over to Apple Logic with the Apogee symphony set up and components. I still know next to nothing about all of this stuff but I'm reading up!
I now have 6 songs recorded and mixed on my Adat set up. The one adat makes a crackling sound on playback so I use the other mostly. It's a buget patchwork set up at this point but the tunes are sounding O.K. I'll see if I can Put up an MP3 to the Blog.
So long for now, B

Guitar Amp Microphone Techniques
I was once told that I had some of the best guitar sounds to tape by a professional in the business. I was recording with a friend in his new home studio. I was using a Fender Super and used a combination of 3 Mics. 2 Shure sm57's one on a top speaker in front about 4" off of the grill and set at a 45 degree angle. The other in Back a few inches from the opening. Then an AKG 414 about 3 ' or 4' from the amp either in front or above. all of this in an isolated room of course. mix in between the 3. If you want more low end bump up the rear speaker. For more high end bump up the AKG room mic. For clear mid punch the front mic. If using a closed back speaker cabinet the rear Mic could be removed from the situation. Setting your sm57's at an angle from the speaker can help cancel out some noise. Give it a try!

Into the abyss!
Well I've finally set up my old blackface adat units and have begun recording my past life's work. I took a decade off and man do I feel behind the times. The kids are about old enough to let me be for small amounts of time and I'm making some progress. I've begun researching the computer recording world and when finances will permit I'll take that plunge. The adats have thier issues but for now they'll have to do. One has transport problems and now the other has some sound issues (crackling).
I played guitar for years with a singer songwriter Gina Graziano but moved to the hills with my wife and young kids after moving back to California from Austin Texas. My songs seam to be a little less hip than some of the folks I played with but I decided to record them non the less as I'm old enough now not to worry about being cool. I'll post some MP3's as I go along. Please comment!
